The DAR Sponsors "The Capture of Vincennes"

"The Capture of Vincennes" plate was originally sponsored by the Paul Revere Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Muncie, IN, as their part in the George Rogers Clark Sesquicentennial, and in recognition of this capture of the British fort at Vincennes, which made American forever all that region now included in the five great states of OH, IN, IL, MI and WI, the old Northwest Territory.

Permission was obtained from Frederick C. Yohn to reproduce his nationally famous painting, "The Capture of Vincennes".

The engraving of this view, in which the details are so exceptionally clearly defined, is regarded as one of the finest specimens of copper plate engraving Jones, McDuffie & Stratton produced in the Historic Plate Series of over 1200 plates. The Francis Vigo Chapter, NSDAR, commissioned another version of this plate in 1934 to commemorate the Capture also. This was a red and cream 10.5" diameter plate. In 1959 the same chapter commissioned yet another Wedgwood plate, with a different scene.
